The specification ASTM A449 covers quenched and tempered steel hex cap screws, threaded rods, headed bolts, studs and anchor bolts having a minimum tensile strength and in diameters ranging from ¼ inch to 3 inches inclusive. These fasteners are intended for general engineering use. ASTM A449 is a medium strength bolt manufactured from heat-treated medium carbon or alloy steel. ASTM A449 is identical to ASTM A325 and SAE J429 grade 5 in terms of strength and chemistry.
